Panaji: Poll panel rejects casino workers applications

Panaji, Apr 10: Casino employees’ applications for including their names in the Porvorim constituency have been rejected by poll panel. Some of the applications were rejected as address proof and documentation submitted by the employees were incorrect.

Additional chief electoral officer (CEO) Narayan Sawant said, “We have received the report from the North Goa collector. We are examining the report.”

Revenue minister Rohan Khanute last month complained that around 820 names of migrants working on casinos were added to the electoral roll for Porvorim constituency and all their applications were routed through one Internet Protocol (IP) address (which uniquely identifies every computer connected to the internet).

Khanute said that many of the casino employees approached the CEO’s office for deletion of their names. The CEO’s office also said that it has not yet received any serious complaint on C-Vigil, the election commission’s mobile app.

Out of the 17 complaints received about use of electioneering banners six were found to be fictitious. Being used for the first time in election, this app allows citizens to file complaints of violation of the code of conduct through mobile phones. The app requires complainants to capture an image or a video recording while registering a complaint to avoid frolicsome activities.
