Mumbai, Mar 13: Thousands of women from Bhayander deanery gathered at Our Lady of Health Church, Bhayander, to celebrate Women’s Day recently.
Mangala Naik, community development officer, Brahnmumbai Muncipal Corporation (BMC), was the chief guest of the programme. Prakash Patil, ration officer, Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation, Fr Alwyn D' Silva, dean, Bhayander deanery, and Sr Mary Crasto were the guests of honour.
Introducing the programme, Dominica Gomes said that by celebrating women’s international day we are made aware of the problems of women. “A woman usually does not think about herself. There is no time for that in this society. But women can also work like men in all aspects. Such platforms help them to think about their problems”, she said.
Mangala Naik explained about the usefulness of self-help groups. She also talked about the importance of the need for saving money by women. Naik stressed the need for income generation programmes.
Fr Alwyn D’ Silva gave some tips on tackling alcoholic men in one’s homes. He also explained about the problem faced by women due to alcoholism amongst men in our society.
The programme started with a prayer dance by Chowk parish. The opening chorus was sung by the members of Dongri parish while skits on women’s problems were presented by Manori parish and Uttan Parish.
A ‘Koli’ dance was presented by Pali parish.
Judy D’ Souza, Bhayandar, gave the vote of thanks. Organizer Felix Sequiera, Gundyadka, was also present on the occasion. The programme ended with the national anthem.
