Mumbai, Mar 10: The 70th birthday celebrations of metro’s veteran Kannadiga social worker P K Salian and the release of a book on his life was held on Sunday March 8 at Dr M Vishweshwarayya memorial auditorium, Matunga (West).
The programme was presided over by former Mumbai High Court judge Justice Manya Suresh Hosabettu.
Bunts Sangh president M D Shetty was the chief guest on the occasion.
Salian and his wife Sujata were felicitated in the presence of Sri Krishna Vittal Pratistan founder Vidwan Vishwanath Bhat Kairabettu, ‘Karnataka Malla’ editor Chandrashekar Palettady, eminent litterateur Dr Sunita Shetty, Devadiga Sangh former president Dharmapal U Devadiga, and Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy former president M K Sitaram Kulal.
Felicitation committee president Tonse Jayakrishna A Shetty, honourary president Dr B R Manjunath, secretary S K Kunder, Kulala Pratistan Mangalore office-bearers Suresh Kulal and Dinesh Kulal, book editor Srinivas Jokatte, Kallige Dayasagar Chowta, and Harish Salian were present on the dais.
Salian arrived in the metro 50 years ago in search of greener pastures and settled down here. His life was full of struggles and challenges like every new migrant. All through his struggles, he continued his association with Kannadiga organizations.
Various dances were staged by children. ‘Mannda Leppu’, a Tulu play was also staged by the Karnataka Sangh Kala Bharati troupe, as part of cultural programmes.
