Margao, Mar 26 (TOI): South Goa district administration has put in place various teams tasked with handling different aspects related to polling ahead of the April 23 general elections in the state.
Speaking to TOI, collector, South Goa, Ajit Roy said that while the first round of training has been imparted to polling personnel, the first level randomisation of electronic voting machines (EVM) will be conducted soon.
As mandated by the Election Commission, the EVMs are subjected to two-stage randomisation process in a bid to prevent any tampering of the machines to favour any particular candidate. Under the process, the machines are selected randomly before being sent to the polling stations to make sure that nobody comes to know beforehand to which polling station a specific EVM will be used.
“The polling personnel requisitioned from various government departments have been imparted the first round of training. Vehicles have also been requisitioned and the government is making them available, some on hire basis also. As regards EVMs, we have sufficient number of machines in good condition and they are securely locked in warehouses. All preparation has been done for strongroom and warehouses,” Roy said.
South Goa district administration has constituted various teams for enforcement of the code of conduct. While the flying squad alongwith static and video surveillance teams will keep an eye on any code violation by parties and candidates, the accounting team will monitor the expenditure done by them, he said.
