Mangalore, Feb 17: Justice B K Somashekhar, who heads the single member commission appointed by the state government to go into the recent incidents of attacks on churches, commenced its hearing in the office of the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district on Monday February 16.
A total of 32 cases have been filed in this respect, in Dakshina Kannada district. He collected details of these cases. Ullal sub-inspector of police Shivaprakash informed the commission that 19 cases have been filed in his police station limits, relating to the above incidents. The Judge also obtained statement made by Putur town inspector K Srikant. The police officials informed, that in some cases out of the above, charge sheets have been filed while the others have been referred to higher officials for suitable directions.
Secretary of the commission Vidyashankar, chief administrator Siddappa Timmagol, legal advisor Hemalata Mahishi, Raviprakash etc., were present.
Police and Home Department lawyer Narayan Reddy examined the police officials. To ensure that the hearing is transparent, the proceedings were videographed. The commission will have its sitting here till the 20th of this month.
