Mumbai, Feb 17: An 18-year-old college student - Mukeem Khan's body was found from the mangroves of suburban Mumbai, three days after he was kidnapped.
Police have arrested a nineteen-year-old boy for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping and murder of Mukeem.
"We have arrested Amir Siddiqui Shaikh who is responsible for the murder of Mukeem Khan," deputy commissioner of police (zone VIII) Nisar Tamboli told PTI.
Shaikh, along with his accomplices, allegedly abducted Mukim and killed him, Tamboli said, adding the body was later dumped into mangroves in Bandra.
Police arrested Shaikh, who during interrogation confessed to the crime and led the police to Khan's body yesterday, Tamboli added
Mukeem went missing on Friday night (February 13) when he went out with two friends - Amir and Sarfraz who allegedly kidnapped him and through an anonymous call - demanded a ransom of two lakh rupees.
According to the Khar police, an anonymous person called up Khan's parents, demanding ransom of Rs 2 lakh.
When a police complaint was filed, the kidnappers fearing detection allegedly killed Mukeem and disposed his body in the mangroves.
The deceased and the two accused are 12th year students of Rizvi college. Mukeem is the son of a landlord in the Mumbai western suburb of Khar. Mukeem was last seen with his two friends.
This latest incident of kidnapping and murder of a teenager by his own friends comes a little more than a year after the high profile murder case of Adnan Patrawala - the 16-year-old son of a businessman from Lokhandwala, Andheri - who was murdered by his own friends in an elaborate plan to get ransom that went horribly wrong.
