Udupi: Kudru Extension of Dr Gabriel Fernandes Road inaugurated at Barkur

Udupi, Feb 16: The newly built extension road running from one end to the other of Moodahadu Kudru, from the new bridge to the proposed linking bridge to Bennekudru, entirely built by the funds provided by Dr Gabriel Fernandes on villagers request was inaugurated at a simple but very well attended function at Moodahadu Kudru on Monday, February 16.

The function was organized by Moodahadu Road Development Committee.
 
Earlier a foundation stone ceremony for a small house for a poor family at Pandeshwar which is also aided by Dr Fernandes was held at Pandeshwar.   Fr R C M Aranha blessed the premises and Dr Fernandes laid the foundation stone.
 


The extension of the road was inaugurated jointly by Jayaprakash Hegde, former MLA and Dr Gabriel Fernandes by cutting the ribbon at the starting point of the road extension.  Shankar Kundar, member, Jilla Panchayath, unveiled the name plate of the Dr Gabriel Fernandes road. 
 
Later at the formal stage function held at Kudru, Moodahadu Road Development Committee felicitated Dr Fernandes with traditional shawl, garland and fruits platter for his generous gift in the form of this road to villagers. Jayaprakash Hegde did the honors on behalf of the villagers.
 
Kishoo, Barkur, www.barkuronline.com, V L Roche,  Shankar Kundar, member, Jilla Panchayath, Kumari Baby, president, Pandeshwara Panchayath, Prof Rajshekahar Hebbar, principal, Rukmini Shedthi Memorial Government First Grade College, Barkur and Prathap Chandra Shetty, president, C A Bank, Sasthan and member, Pandeshwara Panchayath were present as guests on the occasion.
 
Alwyn Andrade conducted the proceedings and proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of the Road Development Committee.  The villagers expressed their wish of getting constructed the proposed bridge connecting this new road to the Bennekudru ring road, which once completed will provide a direct road connection between the Moddahadu-Pandeshwar to Barkur.

Former MLA Jayaparaksh Hegde promised to get it done within his means and Jilla Panchayath Member Shankar Kundar announced that the potable water project for the village is sanctioned and will materialize soon.

    Keep the good work going on... I am truly astonished to see the heart of Dr Fernandes beating for fellow Barkurian.....roads are the means to communicate people irrespective of caste, faith religion....

    Omnes viae Romam ducunt (Latin). ALL the roads lead to Rome, all the ROADS lead to Mecca, and all the roads LEAD to Banaras. The point is that we need roads to go any where. But then if ‘magu Gabbu’ could roam around as a child in Moodahadu without roads, if shale magu Gabru could walk to National High School Barkur without a Highway, if Gabru Naikru could reach Mangalore city without seven bridges, or without the NH17, or reach Bombay without the Konkan Railway, and if Mr. Gabriel Fernandes could reach San Antonio without a Thankabettu Airlines, and return/visit Barkur frequently, as Dr. Gabriel Fernandes, to open a Scholarship Fund, an Auditorium, or open a ROAD in the year 2009, then let this be an example that the possibilities are endless for anyone if one wants to work hard.

    “It’s in giving that we receive.” Your achievement thus far is just a tip of the ice burg!!! Keep up the good work. The presence of so many people, the dignitaries, and Fr. Aranha as well, shows the importance to the need of the hour, road, and more roads. Thanks Kishoo, for your salient efforts behind the curtains.
