Aswini had been to Moodbidri with her school mate Mahadevi. The bus in which they were travelling, was waylaid at Maroor by a gang of about a dozen men in a jeep.
They pulled out Saleem, the conductor of the bus, and cleaner Rafiq and beat them up. According to sources, they then summoned the police in Moodbidri.
Police sources said that the gang alleged that Saleem and Rafiq were involved in some illegal activity with the girl.
The parents of Aswini were then summoned by the police in this regard. However, they decided not to register a complaint, keeping her future in mind.
