Belgaum, Feb 4: Four members of a family who consumed flavored milk offered by a man while travelling by the Yeshwantpur-Jodhpur Express train, became unconscious soon after. The man robbed their belongings and got down from the train in an unknown station. The incident came to light after a ticket collector entered the first class compartment of the family to verify their tickets on Monday February 2. Three women and a man, who are still unconscious, were admitted to the district hospital here.
The passengers have been identified as Surendra Jain (50), Ajita Jain (46), Indradevi Prajapat (36) and Sunita Prajapat (34). Their relatives Rooparam Prajapat (74) and Channibai Prajapat (66) were sleeping in another section of the same coach, but they had not consumed the milk when offered, citing health reasons. They were not aware of what had transpired till the railway staff alerted them.
A young man had befriended the family after boarding the train at Yeshwantpur, spoke in their language, and after winning over their confidence, served flavoured milk at around 10.30 pm. The elderly Prajapats refused the milk and went to sleep in their berths, it is gathered.
Exact loss inflicted on the family by the stranger can be ascertained only after Surendra Jain regains consciousness. Surendra Jain's wife was in a shock and unable to give further details.
