Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Feb 22: The meteorological department has warned the people living near the coast about the changes of high tide at sea in several coasts including Karnataka. As a result, several low lying areas near the seashore face the risk of getting flooded, it said.

This is the affect of distance between earth and moon getting shorter. This phenomenon is known as perigean spring tide. It said that there are chances of this phenomenon affecting the coast before February 24.

This might give rise to increased intensity of waves at sea between 1 pm and 2 am. During this period, there is likelihood of heavy rain and flood arising out of high tide at sea, it said.

The fishermen however said that so far they have not witnessed any change in the behaviour of the sea.
