Mangaluru, Feb 22: Police personnel attached to the city crime branch (CCB) here have succeeded in arresting two notorious chain snatchers who were involved with chain snatching incidents which happened within the limits of Moodbidri police station and Adoor in Kasargod district.
The CCB police were putting together information about people involved with chain snatching incidents and two-wheelers within the city limits when they got information that two young men involved with chain snatching were moving towards the city from Moodbidri in a two-wheeler without registration number plate. The CCB police immediately chased the said vehicle and succeeded in arresting main accused, K Nooman (23), son of Basheer, residing near Kuntalgudde railway tracks at Kannur villlage near here, and Samsheer (21), son of Tamjee, residing near Kuntalgudde railway tracks in Kannur village.

A golden chain the duo had yanked off from the neck of Anupama S Hegde on February 15 morning this year from Prantya within Moodbidri police station limits in the guise of seeking directions, and another gold chain which was pulled away from the neck of a lady who was walking by the roadside on February 17 at Kuntaru within Adoor police station limits in Kasargod district, were recovered from the accused.
Nooman already faces two cases of chains snatching each in Bantwal rural, Bantwal town, and Mangaluru rural police stations. He also faces a case each in the city (east) and Barke police stations relating to chain snatching. In the above cases, he had secured bail about two weeks back. Two golden chains, two cellphones, and a Honda Dio two-wheeler were taken into custody from the accused.
The police learnt that the accused always used two-wheelers without any registration plates at the time of committing thefts. The total value of items now seized from the accused has been estimated at Rs 1,10,900.
The operation was conducted by CCB inspector, Shantharam, police sub-inspectors, Shyam Sundar and Kabbalraj and other staff, who functioned under the guidance of deputy police commissioners, Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashanth, and city police commissioner, T R Suresh.
