Shimoga, Feb 3: In an incident that occurred late night on Sunday February 1, a gang of nine naxals including two women, entered the house of a landlord in Bidragodu, Agumbe on the district’s border with Dakshina Kannada, badly beat up the couple living there, and decamped with gold ornaments and guns.
The naxals who forcibly entered land lord Arun's home, tied him up before launching assault on him and then took away gold ornaments and two guns. Arun as well as his wife Shakila have been admitted to Koppa hospital with severe injuries.
The naxals then sprinkled petrol on the house and torched it, as a result of which, a portion of the house was gutted. Television set and other electronic equipments and 50 sacs of areca nut were burnt to ashes. The motor bike too was set on fire. The naxals have left behind handbills before fleeing from the area. The loss is estimated to be around Rs 15 lac.
The people feel that the naxals indulged in loot to show that they are still a force to reckon with. However, some also express the doubt about the involvement of naxals in this crime, as normally they do not rob gold ornaments during such raids. The anti-naxal force has rushed to the spot and collecting full information on the incident.
