Mumbai, Feb 2: The twelfth annual day celebrations of Maharastra Konkan Association were held on Sunday February 1 evening, at Gyaan Ashram Auditoroum, Mahakali Caves Road, Andheri (East) here.
The programme was presided by the Association president Benedicta B Rebello.
Speaking at the occasion, Rebello said that the oppression on the pretexts of border, caste, religion and language etc., are not justified in our country of multi-religious and diverse cultures. The atrocities being unleashed by the self styled leaders are increasing day by day, casting a devastating effect on common folks. The social welfare and voluntary organizations should work towards resolving these controversies and for peace and harmony to settle in the society, she opined.
Social service lies in helping the hapless, identifying and encouraging the hidden talents among the children, Benedicta added.
Silent prayers were offered to the souls of the departed social workers and Association members.
A large number of Association members were present on the occasion, many of whom came up with various suggestions.

The election for the new office bearers was held. Walter D Souza Jerimeri (honorary president), Lawrence D Souza Kamani (president) and committee members were elected.
Association founder president Leo Fernandes welcomed the gathering. Honorary chief secretary Vincent Castelino presented the annual report. Treasurer Ron Michael Vaz presented the annual accounts. Vice president John G Mendonca, joint treasurer Stanley Dias, Walter D Souza Jerimeri and others were present at the dais.
