Udupi, Feb 20: Members of Catholic Sabha Kallianpur and Kundapur deanery paid tribute to Pulwama martyrs on February 17.
Kundapur denary programme was held at St Marys’s PU College hall, with a minute silent prayer and lighting of candles.
Dr Umesh Puthran, director of Chinmaya Hospital, in his condolence message said, “To gain the control over Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists cropped up. Fighting terror till date, so many brave soldiers have sacrificed their valuable lives. The recent incident is one example. By war things might come under control, many other issues will crop up. So it is better to go the diplomatic way.”
Elroy Kiran Crasto, director of Workers Commission, diocese of Udupi and director of MCC Bank, Mangaluru said, “Our soldiers have saved us from enemies giving up their lives. It is our duty to stand with their families now.”
Michale Pinto presided over the programme, while Fr Stany Tauro, spiritual director, Kundapur deanary, Alwyn Quadros, president, Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh, Leena Tauro, secretary, Kundapur deanary, and members of the units and deanery were present on the occasion.
Vinod Crasto, gave the introduction, Michale Pinto, welcomed the gathering.
Programme of Kallianpur denary was held at Mount Rosary Church Hall. Tribute was paid by Dr Lesily D’Souza, spiritual director, Catholic Sabha Kallianpur denary. In his message, he said, “To safeguard our county, soldiers are doing their duty day night. We have lost them now. They are the members of our family. Let almighty give strength to their family to bear this grief.”
Ex-serviceman Santhosh Cornelio, president, Kallianpur deanary, Roji Quadros, secretary, Kallianpur deanary, Edward Lasron, vice-president, Roshan D’Souza, treasurer and members of the deanary, unit members from the nine churches took part in the programme.
Stephen Prakash Lewis, Brahmavar compered the programme and rendered the vote of thanks.
