Moodbidri: Main accused of thefts in Siddantha Mandira produced in court

Moodbidri, Feb 19: Police from Mangaluru north police station and Moodbidri police station obtained body warrant and produced Santhosh Das (Ghansham), main accused of thefts at Siddantha Mandira, Guru Basadi here.

Idols worth crores of rupees were allegedly stolen here by primary suspect Santhosh Das on July 6, 2013. The remaining suspects of the case were arrested within a few months. The wife of Santhosh Das, Deepthi Mohanty Patnaik, father-in-law Digamber Mohanty and diamond merchant Rajaji were arrested. Santhsoh Das has obtained bail in 23 separate cases. The remaining suspects have obtained bails and come out. As the suspects were absconding without appearing in the court, a warrant was issued by the court for the arrest of Santhosh. He was subsequently arrested in connection with thefts in a temple in Tamilnadu. Therefore, Mangaluru north and Moodbidri police obtained body warrant from Salem court, brought him to Mangaluru and produced him in Mangaluru court and Moodbidri court on Monday.

The warrant was issued by the court as he failed to appear for court hearing. He is currently in judicial custody in Tamil Nadu relating to another theft.

There are 23 cases of thefts registered against him in Karnataka. He had come out after obtaining bail in all of them. Nagesh Shetty D, the defense lawyer said that another application for his bail will be submitted soon.
