Ajman, Feb 19: Health Practice in the coming few years will be different from the present, in view of which it is important to understand the ecosystem of healthcare practice and prepare future health professionals for new challenges, said experts at the ‘Innovation in Medical Education’ workshop jointly organized by the Ministry of Health & Prevention (MoHAP), UAE and the Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman.

The topic of the workshop was ‘Future of Health Professions Education in a Changing World’, and it delved into the ways and means to transform health professions education according to the needs of the time, considering the several disruptive forces leading to a change in the way patients are treated and the health of the population is looked after.

The workshop was addressed by eminent speakers including Prof Hossam Hamdy, the Chancellor of GMU who spoke on the topic ‘Innovation in Health Professions Education’ and Prof Federico Lega, professor of Health Management at the University of Milan, on the topic ‘Aligning health professionals to changing contexts and disruptive innovations: remarks from European experience’. The workshop also included a small group discussion on ‘How we should develop, educate and train Health Professionals in order to fit the future practice of Healthcare’, followed by group presentation and recommendations.

Participants of the workshop included physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals as well as faculty, students and graduates and managers/administrators.
