Mangaluru, Feb 19: “English, Kannada, Hindi and other languages should be learnt for education and career, but we can also preserve our native language Konkani by speaking it with elders at home, children and guests. We are glad to start Ghar Konkani Abhiyan in that direction. It is worthwhile to start the campaign especially as Konkani Natak sabha is completing 75 years,” said Konkani Natak Sabha Mangaluru vice president Sunil Menezes.
He was speaking after inaugurating Konkani Ghar Abhiyan in the residence of veteran Konkani litterateur, multilingual author and journalist Raymond D’Cunha Takode at Kankanady, Mangaluru. “Konkani Natak Sabha has in its administrative meeting decided to join hands with anybody who holds such programmes. We are glad that Raymond, our invited member has taken the first step toward this endeavor. The efforts to preserve Konkani should be unceasing,” he said.
Leo D’Cunha who used to write articles for Konkani newspapers Rakno, Poinari, Sevak, Zhelo and Mithr about 45 years ago, making those newspapers reach houses during those days, speaks in Konkani to wife, children, friends and relatives even after reaching Canada for a career. Current Mangaluru Konkani Association Canada executive Leo D'Cunha was felicitated.
