Udupi, Feb 19: On Monday, February 18, carcasses of four more monkeys were found in the district. One carcass each were found from Durg in Karkala taluk, Vandaru in Avarse, Kavrady in Kandlur and Kamalashile in Hallihole. The last three villages are located in Kundapur taluk.
Postmortem was conducted on the carcass of monkey found from Durg.
Health department sources said that survey about monkey fever was conducted in 3,892 houses on Monday, taking the total houses surveyed so far since January 9 to 88,680. Blood samples of 41 persons have been sent to the laboratory for testing. 40 samples have tested negative. One report is pending. Out of postmortem conducted on 56 monkey carcasses, 44 results have been negative. No infection of this disease has been found in any of the monkeys since January 19, the department stated.
Till now, 199 persons have been treated in Kasturba Hospital Manipal. All of them are from Shivamogga district. Nine have returned to the hospital as the fever symptoms returned. The reports found 76 people were infected with this disease, and 131 reports were negative. 179 were treated and discharged. 25 continue to be treated in the hospital. So far, two from Shivamogga district died, the report said.
