Eighth Consecutive Win for State Women’s Team at Federation Cup Tennis Ball Cricket Championship

Panaji, Jan 31: The state women’s team emerged winners at the 17th Federation Cup Tennis Ball Cricket Championship held at Vishakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The team was awarded the trophy in a ceremony held on Friday January 30.

The event was organized by the AP Tennis Ball Cricket Association at Alwar Das Stadium, Vishakapatnam. This is the eight consecutive victory here for the state women’s team.
 
Goa defeated Utter Pradesh in the finals. Electing to bat, UP were all out for 39 runs in 6.2 overs. Manisha Mangueshkar took 2 wickets for 6 runs, while Gauri Kundaikar took 2 wickets for 11 runs, and Sharmila Landge took 3 wickets for 13 runs.
 


In reply, Goa scored the required runs in 4.1 overs. Dhanashree Naik scored 13 runs, Rasika Sirsat scored 8 runs, and Gauri Kundaikar was not out at 11 runs. Goa won the match by 5 wickets.
 
Earlier, Goa defeated Jammu and Kashmir in the semi-finals, who came in third place.
 
In the league phases, Goa defeated Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and lost to All India Industrial Board.

In the men’s section, J and K defeated host Andhra Pradesh to clinch the title. Third place went to the All India Industrial Board.
 
The successful teams were awarded trophies, medals, and mementos.
 
V M Prabhudesai, ED, SAG, Navin Acharya, assistant secretary, SAG, Roopesh Naik, secretary, GTBCA, Kanta Naik, president, and Uday Dangui, treasurer, congratulated the Goa women’s team on its consistent good record. The winnning team returns  home on Monday February 2.
