Mangaluru: Pet adoption camp ‘Adopthon’ to be held on Feb 17

Mangaluru, Feb 16: Adoption camp ‘Adopthon’ will be organised on Sunday February 17 at Pet Pantry, Sai Arcade, Bejai. The camp featuring more than 20 puppies and six kittens will be held from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Since several years Animal Care Trust (ACT), Shakthinagar, here has been organising adoption camps for dogs and cats. The unique feature of ACT’s camp is that desi puppies and kittens are put up for adoption. These animals have been rescued from horrific conditions by the ACT staff and its volunteers. Once rescued and then nurtured, ACT then puts them up for adoption in a pursuit to find forever homes.

“It has been ACT’s endeavour to put an end to the miseries of these voiceless and find them forever homes,” says Suma Nayak, Trustee of ACT.

While no payment is charged for adoption only a nominal registration fee of Rs 200 is charged to help cover the basic medical expenses incurred. Potential adopters must get a valid photo ID for registration Children must be accompanied by parents/guardians.

Science has confirmed that having pets is good both physically and mentally. According to one theory pets boost our oxytocin levels. Also known as the 'bonding hormone' or 'cuddle chemical', oxytocin enhances social skills, decreases blood pressure and heart rate, boosts immune function and raises tolerance for pain. It also lowers stress, anger and depression.

ACT, is a registered charitable trust that has been actively involved in caring for these voiceless beings across Mangalore and stands as a monument of compassion.
