Mangaluru: Illegal sand transportation - three trucks, sand, confiscated

Mangaluru, Feb 15: Police personnel of Kavoor station here, on Thursday February 14, took into custody three trucks along with sand loads. These trucks were seen transporting sand illegally.

The police observed that three trucks, which were loaded with sand, had been parked on Bondel - KPT Road. When Kavoor police inspector ventured near the trucks to check licences, the drivers jumped out of the trucks and fled. The police therefore came to know that the trucks were transporting sand illegally.

The trucks and sand were handed over to the deputy director of mines and geology department for taking action against drivers and owners of the trucks. The three trucks are valued at about Rs 36 lacs and sand is worth Rs 90,000.

The operation was conducted by Kavoor police inspector, K R Naik and staff under the guidance of city (north) subdivision assistant commissioner of police, Srinivas Gowda.
