Kaup, Feb 11: Dead body of a stranger, a male aged around 40 to 45 years was found in burnt condition near the Majoor railway bridge under Kaup police station limits on the morning of Sunday, February 10.
As the body was found near a congested place, which is not easily accessible and covered by weeds, it is not clear whether this is a case of suicide or murder. In addition, it has given rise to many doubts.
On the morning of Sunday, the daughter of Ganesh, who resides nearby the site where the body is found, saw a fire by the side of the railway track and brought the same to the notice of her father. When Ganesh went near the place where the fire was seen, he saw a dead body that is being burnt. He immediately informed the same to the other people in the locality and later to the police.
The police, who arrived on the spot, put off the fire and took the body for postmortem to Manipal hospital with the help of social worker Soori Shetty and ambulance driver Nagaraj.
A towel seemed to have been covered around the mouth of the body. The intestines of the dead body are protruding out from the stomach near the waist region of the body. This has given rise to suspicion that it might be a murder.
A packet of Dilkush, a bundle of beedi, a piece of lungi and a black spectacle were recovered from near the dead body. No evidence with regards to the use of petrol or other combustible substances was available on the spot where the dead body was found. So there is confusion whether this is the case of a murder or suicide. In addition, the identity of the dead person is not known as the face is disfigured badly by the burn.
Police are verifying whether anyone is missing in the nearby locality to get a clue about the dead person. Police sources are saying that any further progress in this case can be made only after the post mortem report and forensic examination report are available to them.
Kaup police have registered the case and conducting further investigation.
