Belangady, Feb 10: "Sri Kshegra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP)' launched by Dr Veerendra Heggade during the first ceremonial bath (Mahamastakabhisheka) of Lord Bahubali here has brightened the lives of thousands of farmers. Likewise, the Kere Sanjeevini (lake rejuvenation) plan being executed by the government with the support of Dharmasthala establishment will turn Karnataka into a water-rich state," said Karnataka chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy.
He was speaking after inaugurating the first phase of four-lane road and signing the lake rejuvenation scheme agreement at Dharmasthala on Saturday, February 9.
He said that rejuvenation of all the lakes in the state and protecting the interests of farmers have been the aims of his government. He said that the lake rejuvenation programme is being taken up with Dharmasthala institutions to see that farmers do not face shortage of water for their activities. He hailed Dr Veerendra Heggade for working to rid people of different vices, make women financially self reliant, and induces farmers to happily undertake their activities.
Udupi Pejawar Sri Vishweshattertha Swamiji, who inaugurated the programme, delivered benedictory address. He felt that Dr Heggade deserves to be honoured with Bharat Ratna title. Dr Heggade, in his address, appreciated the state budget and opined that the schemes announced there should be completely and honestly implemented. Union minister, D Sadananda Gowda, praised Dharmasthala establishment for undertaking schemes and projects like the government for the welfare of the state.
On this occasion, a sum of one lac rupees each towards maintenance was handed over to lake committees of ten districts in which 34 of 93 identified lakes are proposed to be developed, on behalf of the government. A cheque of Rs 88 lac was handed over to Dr Heggade as first installment under the said scheme.
Various dignitaries, MLAs,MLCs, and ministers were present. MLC, Harish Kumar, welcomed. Executive director of SKDRDP, Dr L H Manjunath, proposed vote of thanks. Ajith Kokrady presented the progamme.
