Mangaluru, Feb 9: T R Suresh, police commissioner said that detailed information and list of violators who have not provided vehicle parking space in the commercial buildings as well as residential apartments in addition to violation of building norms will be submitted to the deputy commissioner (DC).
The police commissioner was responding to questions posed by citizens on the weekly police phone-in programme that was held on Friday February 8.
The citizens voiced their grievance about the issue of parking and said, "In many multi-storied buildings in the city, shops are doing business, in the area that was meant for vehicle parking. Because of this, the customers who arrive at the building have to park their vehicles on the side of the road which is causing traffic congestion. Though this issue is raised with the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) several times, no improvement is noticed in the situation. So police has to intervene and bring pressure on the administration."
One caller raised the issue of cable TV and said that due to the new TRAI rule, now there is no cable tv as well as set up box. Grievance was also brought to the notice of the commissioner of two-wheelers being driven on the footpath at Baikampady. The commissioner said that special action will be taken on this issue.
One concerned citizen said that vehicles are being parked on both sides of Arya Samaj road in the city, which leaves very little space for vehicular movement. The commissioner said that 'No Parking' boards will be put on the road in that area to prevent people from parking their vehicles.
Other issues raised during the programme:
*Dirty water is being used in the manufacture of ice cream at Moodbidri
*Due to street vendors near Urwa Market, customers park their vehicles on the road, which causes inconvenience to vehicle riders
*Autorickshaw drivers use blaring horns
*College and school students roam in uniforms in malls. This needs to be curtailed
*Certain autorickshaw drivers charge more fare than prescribed in Kulshekar - Kaikamba area of the city
This was the 105th police phone-in programme in which a total of 34 calls were received.
