Itanagar, Feb 9 (IANS): The loin loom of Arunachal Pradesh received much-needed support when Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed a set of loin looms set up in a gazebo in the front lawns of Raj Bhavan at Itanagar on Saturday.
Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu were present on the occasion among others.
Interacting with loin loom weavers, the Prime Minister showed interest in methods of operating the indigenous loom. He also enquired about the availability of threads for the looms.
The display of the indigenous loin loom sets was arranged at the initiative of the Governor and First Lady of the State, Neelam Misra.
Weaving with the use of the traditional loin loom is a skill that is passed down generations among women in Arunachal Pradesh.
The designs and patterns of traditional weaving of Arunachal Pradesh are unique, attractive, exclusive and one of its kind in the world. Every tribe of Arunachal Pradesh has different colours and designs symbolising their identity.
The loin loom has an economic significance for the women, too.
