Mangaluru, Feb 8: Congress leader and district Wakf board president U K Monu urged to consider him as the candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing media here on Friday, February 8, U K Monu said, "I joined Congress party in 1970 as a worker and have gained confidence of local and state Congress leaders. Due to my sincere service to the party as an honest worker, the state leadership has given me various posts from the beginning till date."
"I have submitted a letter to the district Congress president Harish Kumar requesting his support for my candidature in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019. I have served as treasurer of Ullal block Congress committee from 1974 to 2000. I was elected as member of district Congress in 2000 and was the president of district Congress committee, minority department from 1994 to 2008," added Monu.
Monu further said, "I tried to contest parliamentary elections in the year 2009 from the constituency of Mangaluru on Congress party ticket. In the year 2014, I again attempted to contest by getting B form from the high command. The high command instructed me to contest DCC election for the selection of candidate and I lost the election to B Janardhana Poojary."
"I am confident that the people, irrespective of religion, will support me for my candidature," concluded U K Monu.
