Kundapur, Feb 8: A person running a hotel business at Singapore lost his life in a road accident here on the night of Thursday February 7. In the accident which happened near Basha Transport on service road of national highway 66 here, ill-fated entrepreneur, Vivekananda S K (42), son of Shankaranarayana from Markodu in the taluk, was killed.

Vivekananda was crushed under the wheels of a truck.

The victim used to operate a hotel business at Singapore along with his younger brother. He was married. He had come home on Wednesday evening to attend the naming ceremony of his baby daughter, which was to be held on Saturday.

Vivekananda had visited the town on Thursday evening to buy certain things needed for the naming ceremony. He was returning home at around 8.15 pm in his Honda Activa two-wheeler, when tragedy struck. All the vehicles were forced to move on the congested service road as highway widening work was on. Vivekananda too was riding his vehicle on service road towards Koteshwara. An insulator truck that was moving towards Udupi from the direction of the town hit the vehicle Vivekananda was riding from behind in the narrow service road. Due to unexpected jolt, Vivekananda lost his control over the vehicle and fell on the road. Instantly, the rear wheel of the truck moved over his head. Although Vivekananda was wearing a helmet, his helmet was crushed into pieces, and his head was smashed. He lost his life on the spot.

A case in this connection was registered in traffic police station here. The police, who arrested the lorry driver, also took custody of the vehicle.

The insensitive and indifferent approach of the NHAI & the road ministry is almost always responsible for such fatalities. Besides giving full page advertisement on national dailies, no steps are taken for the protection of the common man.

Very sad news. India roads are very narrow and all those go for holidays from abroad, avoid two wheelers. Take auto or other means of transport.

Everybody writes RIP. That's the end of the story. Why there is no solution to this. Everyday we read a news like this.
People start blaming his fate. There nothing called fate. If the truck driver knew how to drive near small vehicle this wouldn't have happened.
People are getting license just by bribing official. You are not even required to show proper driving test. There is no proper license test track. I gave 2 wheeler license test inside a fish market. I am sure this truck driver also did something similar.
We should look at the test tracks in the developed countries, when we will learn.
There is no policy from the government. As long as this continues people will simply loose lives. And everyday kids are becoming orphans. When will this stop.

I really agree with your comment wholeheartedly.. What points you mentioned in your comment are the points to ponder upon. From top to bottom all government officials are corrupt. Only greed for power and money. That's all. No safety measures. But licenses are issued if you throw money at the concerned officials.. So we say just rest in peace and condolences to their family. Our cries, our Comments, our voices just like shedding tears in the heavy rains. Unnoticeable.

    RIP

When will these truck drivers be patient enough to allow tiny vehicles like scooters to move on the highways.
