Under instructions from senior police officials, case under sections 505, 298, 153A, 149 and 105 of Indian Penal Code and also 109 of Karnataka Police Act was registered in Ullal police station. The police said they registered the case as they came across resentment among the general public about at holding this programme.
This incident gave rise to charges being exchanged between political rivals. SDPI leader, Riaz Farangipet, in a press conference, accused Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, U T Khader, of ensuring that this case is registered. He also held protest against the police for registering the complaint on Tuesday.
Congress leaders however claim that the minister has nothing to do with this case and his name is being dragged into the controversy unnecessarily.
