Mangaluru, Feb 7: Mahendra Kumar, former convener of Bajrang Dal has been acquitted in the Adoration Monastery attack case.
The attack had taken place on September 14 in 2008 at Milagres in city.
Around 15 persons had attacked the monastery run by cloistered nuns. They had damaged the Sacrament and Cross kept at the monastery in addition to other items. Later many such incidents were reported at churches and prayer centers from different parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
Subsequently Mahendra Kumar had called a press conference and defended the attack on Adoration Monastery. He had said that the attack was against religious conversation and not against Christians. He had hailed the contribution of Christians in social service. He had said he did not have any intention to disturb the social harmony that existed between Christians and Hindus.
Judge Mahesh B T from JMFC second court had held the trial. Around 12 witnesses had testified in the case,. Rajesh Kumar Amtady from P P Hegde Associates had argued for the accused.
Other cases related to church attacks were disposed earlier.
