Ballari, Feb 6: A senior police officer, who wanted not to be named, said that in connection with the uprooting of ancient pillars standing near Lord Vishnu temple at Hampi, four persons have been taken into custody.

The police had formed three teams to locate the culprits, after the video showing a group of youngsters pushing the pillars to the ground became viral a few days back. The police even went to Bengaluru and Mumbai in search of the accused.

Sources said that all the four who have been arrested now belong to Madhya Pradesh. During their questioning, they are said to have confessed to the mischief.

The Archaeological Survey of India, which has taken the incident seriously, has already initiated disciplinary action against those posted at the site for security. Additional security has now been arranged to protect the monuments.
