Bahrain, Feb 4: The annual konkani singing and elocution competition of Konkani Kutam, Bahrain was held at the Papillion Restaurant party hall on February 3.
The event was held by Konkani Kutam in its endeavour to promote and keep Konkani language and culture alive in the hearts and minds of people from costal Karnataka. The competition hosted for children presently in its 18th year, saw 41 children contesting. The participation has been increasing year after year.
The competition was spearheaded by Konkani Kutam Bahrain convener Henry D’Almeida, committee members Ronald Fernandes, Stany D’souza, Walter Noronha and Sanjay Sequeira as event coordinators and was ably compered by Santhosh Danthy. The convener Henry D’Almeida, in his message mentioned that Konkani Kutam Bahrain was proud to promote Konkani language and culture in Bahrain from its inception.
The singing and elocution competition comprised of three categories of 4 to 8 years, 8 to 12 years and 12 to 18 years respectively.

Winners were given cash prizes and trophies. Consolation prizes were handed over to all the participants. The singing competition was judged by popular chorister and singer Richard Pais, Sydney Correa and a talented young man having background of music and popular key board player Deil Maven Bennis. The elocution competition was judged by popular public speaker and former area governor at Karnataka Club Toastmaster Bahrain Joseph Andrade, popular public speaker of toastmasters and present member of Karnataka Club toastmasters, Bahrain and vice president for public relations Roshan Lewis and another popular former public speaker of toastmasters having excellent inter-personal communication and leadership skills Helen Menezes.
Ronald Fernandes rendered the vote of thanks. A sumptuous buffet dinner was served by Papillion Restaurant to everyone present.
