Mangaluru Feb 4: District in-charge minister U T Khader on Monday, February 4, said that the state government has permitted the use of grants provided under the 14th Finance Commission to provide drinking water in their respective jurisdictions.

Addressing media here U T Khader said, "There are several interior areas with severe drought and there is shortage of drinking water. Earlier, there was restriction for the usage of grants under 14th finance commission to tackle drinking water facilities as only 25% of grants could be used which is now been lifted.

“Committees have been formed to address water problems in the state and hence the government has released 1 crore each to 100 drought-hit taluks, while 50 lac each to 62 taluks and Rs 25 lac each to 14 taluks. Dakshina Kannada will get Rs 50 lac, out of which Rs 25 lac has already been released,” he said.

Reacting to the recreation of assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by Hindu Mahasabha, U T Khader said, "This is a work of traitors. I condemn this act. While Modi is seen respecting Mahatma Gandhi, organisation supporting BJP is seen recreating the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi during his death anniversary. If Modi respects Gandhi, the culprits should be arrested at the earliest.

“Gandhiji was our identity. He was the one who fought for our nation. Instead of respecting him, they are glorifying Godse. What kind of message does it convey to the public?” he asked.

Irresponsible budget

Reacting to the central government's budget, U T Khader said, "Central government's budget is not in favour of the people and is an irresponsible budget. South Indian states including Karnataka have been completed neglected in the budget. There has been no employment creation and there are no schemes for students. During budget, they speak about URI film. Instead of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should openly speak to media and have an open discussion. Let him answer media’s questions.”

Taluk panchayat president Monu, Congress spokesperson A C Vinayaraj and others were present.
