Mangaluru, Feb 4: District Congress Committee held a protest and condemned Hindu Mahasabha for aimimg a pistol at the effigy of Mahatma Gandhi in order to ‘recreate’ his assassination by Nathuram Godse on his death anniversary.
Addressing the protesters at Mallikatte, on Monday, February 4, Ramanath Rai, former minister said, “Sangh Parivar organisations are trying to bring anarchy in our country. They do not respect our Constitution. By recreating the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, they insulted the citizens of India who are real patriots. They questioned our freedom which was attained through the sacrifices of our beloved national leaders. By recreating a murder, the Sangh Parivar organisations are trying to inject hatred in the young generation. Their act proves how cruel they are. As a citizen of India, we all should condemn this act. By recreating the assassination, Hindu Mahasabha questioned the self respect of every Indian. It is clear that Hindu Mahasabha and its relating associations are against the interests of our nation.”
In his speech MLC Harish Kumar, "Hindu Mahasabha does not involve itself in any national building activities. Its main agenda is to spread hatred and violence in the name of religion. We all know Mahatma Gandhi led the nation’s struggle for freedom. But at the same time the leaders of Hindu Mahasabha secretly helped the British. After independence, they plotted the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. They felt that he was a hurdle for their activities. Now they are trying to assassinate the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi. They cannot bear the messages of the Father of the Nation which is spreading among youths largely. The BJP is supporting these anti-nationals with the support of Sangh Parivar. But in the upcoming election, people will teach a fitting lesson to BJP and its allies."
Congress leaders MLC Ivan D’Souza, Ibrahim Kodijal, Kavita Sanil, Asha D’Silva, Shalet Pinto and other leaders were present.
