Shivamogga, Feb 4: In some areas of Theerthahallai and Hosanagar taluks of Shivamogga district the people experienced tremors at around 1.33 am on Sunday, February 3. Alos, in some places of Siddapur in the district of Udupi, tremors due to earthquake were felt.
Vittal Nagar of Theerthahalli taluk is the epicentre of this earthquake and an intensity of 2.2 is recorded on the richter scale. The earth shook in villages around Megaravalli like Hanasa, Karunapura, Acchuru, Huruli, Kokkodu, Gardaragadde, Shiroor, Paduvalli and areas around Nagara Hobali of Hosanagar taluk like Sulugodu, Yadoor, Mastikatte and Tammemane.
The people in the area where the tremors were felt reported a huge sound all of a sudden, which disturbed their sleep. The tremors were minor. The household things that were kept on top have fallen down. The wall of house of Devendra Naika at Kauri of Hosanagara taluk suffered a crack due to tremors.
People panicked as this is the first time an earthquake is reported at Mani dam of Varahi hydroelectric power plant.
