Kundapur, Feb 3: After a goods tempo hit a small boy standing by the roadside near Janata Colony, Goliangady near Siddapur in the taluk, the boy lost his life on the spot. The accident happened on Saturday February 2. The grief of the family was made more profound because of the fact that the boy was killed on his birthday.
The victim has been identified as four-year-old Anshik (4), son of Raghavendra and Pavitra couple from Konandoor Kontehole in Thirthahalli taluk, Shivamogga district. Anshik was the younger of the two sons of the couple, with his elder brother, Anvith (7), studying in the primary school at Malali, Thirthhalli taluk. Anshik was attending Anganwadi at Thorebail.
Pavitra had come to attend marriage in a relative's family near Vandaru from Konandur along with her children on Friday. The family had visited Mandarthi temple to invoke blessings on account of Anshik's birthday. On Saturday, after the reception, Pavitra had travelled in a vehicle arranged for transporting the marriage party. She got down near Goliangady Janata Colony with the aim of visiting her relatives there, and was standing by the roadside for crossing the road, when a goods vehicle carrying food grains to Beltangady via Sagar and Halady hit the boy.
Krishna Naika from Janata Colony filed a police complaint in Shankarnarayana station relating to this incident. Amasebail station house officer, Shekhar, Shankarnarayana police assistant sub-inspector, Chandrashekhar, and other policemen visited the spot, registered a case, and took the killer vehicle and its driver into custody.
Postmortem was conducted by Dr Raeshwari A J at Belve primary health centre.
