New Delhi, Feb 1 (IANS): The Union budget on Friday has proposed an increase of 21 per cent in the allocation for the northeastern areas of the country.
"The people of the North-East have received significant benefits of infrastructure development in the country. Arunachal Pradesh came on the air map recently and Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram have come on India's rail map for the first time," according to the Budget reads.
Allocation for the northeastern areas is being proposed to be increased by 21 per cent to Rs 58,166 crore in 2019-20 over 2018-19, it said.
It also said the Centre will introduce container cargo movement to the North East as well, by improving the navigation capacity of the Brahmaputra river.
