Mangaluru: Sr Maria Shamita chosen provincial superior of Apostolic Carmels

Mangaluru Feb 1: The delegates of the provincial chapter Karnataka province elected Sr Maria Shamita AC, principal of St Agnes PU College as the provincial superior.

Prior to that, sisters of the Apostolic Carmel gathered at St Ann’s convent chapel to pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit during the Eucharistic celebration celebrated by Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza, Capuchin.

The four Councillors elected are Sr Maria Kripa, Sr Maria Melissa, Sr Maria Shubha and Sr Julie Ann.

Sr Linet D’Souza was re-elected as provincial bursar. The superior general Sr Susheela AC presided over the elections. The new team will assume office in April 2019.

    Good to see the election of rather young Provincial leader and team to lead the Aposolic Carmel affairs in Karnataka province. I hope the new team brings along some new thinking, fresh air, greater internal freedom in decision making, decentralization in administrative affairs and joyous community living among the AC sisters that leads to effective witnessing to the love of Christ in the Province and beyond. In the modern changing times, we need more novel ways of doing mission with greater flexibility and dynamism. We wish the new team the very best. Specially blessings on the Provincial leader. Having been associated with the AC sisters in Kenya very closely, I have great regard and appreciation for the kind of commendable missionary activity they undertake, especially in the field of imparting value-based, high quality education.
