Chitradurga, Feb 1: A doctor named Dr B Shankaralaxmi is found to have conducted sex determination test on a woman who has completed six months of pregnancy. The pregnant woman, who fell ill after consuming medicine given for her abortion, is being treated in government hospital now.
A team led by deputy director of prevention of misuse and regulation of pre-conception and pre-natal diagnostic techniques cell, Dr Prabhugouda, visited Lakshmi Srinivasa Nuring Home at Challakere in the district where the said incident happened and conducted checks.

Prima facie, the team found that sex determination procedure was conducted. It was decided to file criminal case against the family of the pregnant woman and the doctor who performed the test. The cell said that this is the first ever case of a doctor having been caught conducting such a test openly in Karnataka.
District health officer, Dr B Neeraj, informed that the sex determination test of the pregnant woman from Hosur village, Challakere taluk, was performed on January 29.
