Bantwal, Feb 1: Vittal police arrested an entrepreneur accused of cheating a family by creating a document in the name of a deceased woman. He has been identified as D K Abbas, resident of Kanathadka in Vittal Casba village.
A distant relative of Abbas, identified as Bifatumma, had died in 2007. Bifatumma had some land in Alike village in her name. Abbas has been accused of creating a general power of attorney purported to have been executed in his favour by the late Bifatumma through a lawyer in the year 2013. On the basis of this document, he is said to have raised a loan of Rs 30 lac from a private bank at Vittal on the security of the said land, it is said.
Nebisa, daughter of Bifathumma, had filed a complaint against Abbas, branch manager of the bank and others in the court. The court had directed the police department to register a case against Abbas and others.
The arrest was executed by Vittal police sub-inspector, Yallappa and others under the guidance of Bantwal police circle inspector, Nagaraj. On being produced in the court, the accused was remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.
