Mangaluru, Feb 1: After finding serial killer, Cyanide Mohan Kumar (56), guilty of murdering a 31-year-old lady from Mittoor in Idkidu village, Bantwal taluk, the sixth additional district and sessions court judge, D T Puttarangaswamy, through a judgement delivered on Thursday January 31, awarded imprisonment till the entire period of his remaining life to Cyanide Mohan.
Mohan got to know a lady from Mittoor, who was working as a nurse in a nursing home at Puttur, at Vittal bus stand. Mohan introduced himself to her with the name, 'Sudhakar Gowda' and obtained her cell phone number. He thereafter continued to maintain regular contact with her and convinced her to come to Puttur along with her ornaments on April 22, 2009,.
She came to Puttur bus stand at 10 am that day and met Mohan there. As per his advice, she withdrew Rs 2,000 from the ATM after which both of them boarded a bus to Mysuru. They reached Mysuru in the evening and hired a room in a lodge. He established physical relationship with the lady that night. On April 24, he asked her to keep her ornaments inside the room, as he said they were to attend an interview for employment where they need to project themselves as from poor background. She followed Mohan's advice.
Mohan then took her to the bus stand at Mysuru. He told her that it would be detrimental to their future if she gets pregnant out of previous night's physical relationship, and handed her a cyanide tablet, claiming it to be meant for contraception. As per his advice, she went into the toilet at the bus stand, consumed the tablet, and collapsed there.
Mohan thereafter returned to the lodge, and took away the ornaments. The staff who noticed the deceased lady inside the toilet, alerted the police. The police registered unnatural death of unidentified lady and disposed the body off.
Mohan called the girl's elder brother to inform him that the two had married and that there was no need to search for the lady. He told him that the girl feels awkward to speak to family members at that time out of shame and promised that the two would return home in a few days. Therefore, the family did not lodge police complaint.
Mohan had been arrested on October 21, 2009, relating to the death of a lady from Barimar, Bantwal. During the investigation conducted under the then assistant superintendent of police, Chandragupta and others, Mohan confessed having killed the lady from Mittoor
The police investigated the case thereafter and filed charge sheet.
After killing the lady from Mittoor, Mohan had used her phone to contact girls at Puttur, Bantwal and Barimar.
