Udupi, Jan 31: “There is a rule that 25% of contracts of PWD, PRED and other departments should be assigned to scheduled caste and schedule tribe contractors. Civil right directorate will investigate instances of assigning the contracts to others violating the rules as there are complaints,” said deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis.
She spoke after presiding over district level grievance meeting of scheduled caste and scheduled tribe in Rajathadri on Wednesday, January 30.
She said that wrong decisions of allocating DC Manna land will be set right and asked for a report from taluk panchayat executive officer in this connection. “The presence of beneficiaries is mandatory during works for the groups. Suitable action will be taken against concerned people after investigations by civil rights directorate in case of violations.”
“Water in the drinking water well of social welfare department in Kukkehalli gets contaminated by private parties,” said a representative. The DC asked taluk panchayat executive officer to submit a report if the company violates licence rules. A villager complained that a private person has acquired 13 acres land of SC/ST and constructed a house. The DC asked to give details within next twenty days.
The DC said that the land set aside for residential school in Shankernarayana is in deemed forest limits. “If there are no objections, Ambedkar residential school will be constructed in Ampar.” She asked district social welfare officer to take suitable action for maintenance of Ambedkar community halls. She asked PDO to withdraw permission for Hangarkatte fish cutting unit and submit a report as it causes difficulties to school going children.
Leaders of different organizations, Sundar Master, Udaya Kumar Tallur, Sunder Kappettu, Shekhar Havanje, Ramesh Kotian, Vasudev Madooru, Vishwanath Petri, Vijayalaxmi, advocate Mahabala, Manjunath Balkudru and others were present.
Zilla panchayat chief executive Sindhu B Ramesh, district SP Laxman Nimbargi, civil rights directorate SP Vedamurthy, Karkal ASP Krishna Kumar and district social welfare officer Bhujbali were present.
