Shivamogga, Jan 30: Monkey fever, also known as Kyasanur Forest Disease, has created scare in Shivamogga district and some coastal areas of Karnataka of late. A new medicine to treat this condition has now emerged. A youngster has claimed success in finding out a medicine that can stop spread of the disease. Once the Ayush department approves the medicine, the people would be able to get this medicine.
Nivedan Nempe from Thirthahalli in the district, who had in the past succeeded in finding new products that can be created from areca nut, an important crop of Malnad, has invented this new medicine.
Monkey fever spreads due to tick bites. Nivedan Nempe has created an ointment by using herbs, which effectively can repel ticks.
Nivedan says that his invention was inspired by what the elders in the family used to say by way of traditional advice. In Malnad region, people were being given bitter concoction named as 'Kahi' to stop worms and insects from biting the humans. By using the items which were used for the said medicine and processing them, Nivedan claims to have invented the new medicine.
