Udupi, Jan 12: The award function of Kemtoor Tulu Drama Competition was held at Mudanna Mantapa of MGM College on Sunday January 11.
The event was organized by Udupi Tulukoota.
Participating as the chief guest of the programme, Dr H Shantaram, administrative officer, Manipal Academy of General Education, opined that plays have the potential of conserving our culture. They also arouse a feeling of affection among the audience, towards our literature and language, he felt.
"The new generation is getting attracted towards the western culture and losing interest in the beautiful Indian culture. At this crucial juncture, drama can act as a medium to encourage the youths to value the importance of the culture, he analysed.
Dr Bhaskarananda Kumar, president, Udupi Tulukoota, presided over the function.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the drama competition.
U Damodhar, convener, Tulukoota Publicity Committee welcomed the gathering. Udyavar Nagesh Kumar, convener, Competition Organizing Committee, read out the list of winners. M G Chaitanya compered the programme.
Srinivas Mendon, chief manager of Syndicate Bank, Catholic branch, Udupi, was present on the occasion.
Later, the top prize-winning play ‘Namma Ulaidaye’ was staged.
