Mumbai, Jan 23: Model Co-operative Bank held a programme at St Xavier Engineering College auditorium on Saturday January 19 to distribute scholarships for 2018 to the children of its members.
Jamnabai Nursy International School and Mumbai education board senior advisor Josphin Vas was the chief guest. "Children should attempt to achieve the impossible. They should make the most of the opportunities available to them,” she said.
The bank’s vice president William Sequeira chaired the programme and handed over scholarships to hundreds of students.
“This is the outcome of hard work. Students should not receive education only to earn their living, but also for the development of the country,” he said.
The bank’s founder president John D’Silva, former vice president Vincent Mathais, directors Paul Nazareth, Thomas D’Lobo, Lawrence D’Souza, Sanjay Shinde, Benedicta Rebello, Marita D’Mello, Jerald Cardoza, bank’s CEO and general manager William L D’Souza were on the dais.
John D’Silva said that the bank supports progress of the community and entrepreneurship. “Students should be entrepreneurs instead of being employees. Be creative citizens inculcating a spirit of organizing and leadership,” he said.
Fr Vincent Menezes was present as special guest. William L D’Souza welcomed the gathering and delivered an introductory address. The bank’s manager Edward Rasquinha compered the programme. Lolita Rodrigues read the list of scholarship beneficiaries. Senior manager Biyeta Carvalho proposed the vote of thanks.
