Mangaluru, Jan 18: The lifeless body of a monkey was found lying at Padu Alevoor in the taluk on Thursday January 17. Another monkey died in the plantation of Adam at Kadra in Haleneranki village, Ramakunja gram panchayat, Kadaba.
After the people conveyed information to forest department officials, the officials visited Padu Alevoor, conducted postmortem, and sent samples to virus detection laboratory at Shivamogga for testing.
In the case of the monkey which died in Kadaba aluk, Ujire veterinary officials visited the spot, conducted postmortem, and sent samples to Shivamogga for testing. The monkey's carcass was incinerated and polyethylene powder was sprayed around the spot. The officials also distributed pamphlets aimed at creating awareness about monkey fever among the locals.
Several monkeys had died in Heleneranki long ack. The health officials said that it might take two weeks for receiving laboratory report from Shivamogga and that anti-vaccine injections would be administered if the presence of the disease is confirmed. They advised the people to anoint their bodies with either oil of margosa leaves of DMP oil before entering forests.
