Udupi, Jan 17: Udupi District Congress staged protest in front of Martyrs memorial ground, Ajjarkad on Thursday, January 17 against BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and national BJP president Amit Shah, alleging that BJP is trying to destabilize the coalition government.
Former MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake addressing the protestors said, “BJP is anti-democracy party. Modi and Amit Shah are trying to get rid of democracy from India. BJP is busy in horse-trading in Arunachal, Jharkhand and Manipur. Yeddyurappa did the same during 2008, when he was in power. It was he who tried to remove Congress from power in other states. But it did not work. BJP required 9 more seats to get the majority and to form new government. BJP is planning to weaken the state government continuously. Yeddyurappa was in jail because of his anti-democratic and anti-constitutional activities. BJP kept itself busy in purchasing MLAs of opposition party. They spent crores of rupees every day in resort for their luxury meals. The Central government is weakening democracy.”
Sorake also lashed at the Central government for showing lack of interest in conducting search operations for seven fishermen of Coastal area who went missing. “Instead of being bothered about fishermen they are busy indulging in resort politics in Haryana. BJP is not allowing the government to do developmental works. It must support the government, instead of interrupting every step of the coalition government,” he said.
Former MLA of Karkala H Gopal Bhandary said, “We are staging protest near Gandhi statue to save democracy. Now it is in danger. BJP is trying to buy opposition party MLAs with money. The idea of ‘Operation Lotus’ was conceived during Yeddyurappa’s term, when he was chief minister. Now he continued the same thing. BJP is killing democracy. They do not have worry about missing fishermen. They are not allowing coalition government to function smoothly. Luring the law makers is always dangerous to this nation.”
MA Gafoor, general secretary of KPCC said, “Yeddyurappa is trying to enforcing the corrupt system in the State. They are struggling to get 113 seats to defeat coalition government, but it is not happening. It has lost trust in democracy. So BJP is conducting ‘Operation Lotus’.”
Congress leaders Janardhan Thonse, president, district Congress, Narasimha Murthy, Amruth Shenoy, spokesperson, Bhaskar Kediyur, Vignesh Kini, Harish Kini, Vishwas Amin, Satish Amin Padukere, Prakhyat Shetty, Jyothi Hebbar, Chandrika Shetty, Veronica Cornelio, Roshini Olivera and others were present.
