Udupi, Jan 17: “You have announced that sand is available in Nirmithi center premises. But when we ask there, we are told that there is no sand. Therefore, give clear information,” said zilla panchayat president Dinakar Babu to district Mines and Geology officials.
He was speaking after presiding monthly KDP meeting held in zilla panchayat auditorium on Wednesday. “What is the need of announcing that there is sand when it is not available?” He asked. The officer of mines and geology responded that only 16,000 metric tonne sand is obtained in initial five blocks. “Eleven blocks are identified in second stage. Sixteen lac metric tonne sand is likely from those blocks. As the demand is for 13 lacs tonne, the sand is sufficient for district and the price of sand is likely to decrease,” he said.
He asked to provide electricity against twenty applications pending for electrification under Ganga Kalyan scheme. He asked to bring to the notice of zilla panchayat president and local zilla panchayat members while selecting beneficiaries for distribution of Giriraja poultry by the department of horticulture.
“Despite earlier decision to hold meetings regarding problems of student’s hostel once in two months, no such meetings are being held. Therefore, hold meetings regularly and inform about them to the concerned officials,” he said.
Education and standing committee president Babu Shetty asked to form consumer’s associations and hand over maintenance of Kindi dams in the district to them.
Social justice committee president Shashikant Padubidri said that indefinite protests against toll are in progress in Hejmady. “As no action is taken, the protesters have decided to go on hunger strike. Therefore, the matter should be brought to the notice of deputy commissioner,” he said.
Zilla panchayat chief executive officer Sindhu B Roopesh said that recommending for suitable action is inevitable if the works on SC/ST projects are not completed within stipulated time. She asked to form implementation committees on taluk level and perform work.
The CEO said that the central government will present prizes to clean and beautiful toilets and asked the people in the district to make the movement on cleanliness a success.
Zilla panchayat vice president Sheela K Shetty, agriculture and industry standing committee president Udaya S Kotian, Zilla panchayat assistant secretary Nagesh Raikar, chief project officer Srinivas Rao and different department officials were present.
