Udupi, Jan 16: “Colour coding and charges according to fare meters should be made mandatory in Udupi,” urged Mahiti Seva and Mass India NGO president G A Kotekar.
Speaking in a news conference in Udupi on Wednesday, Jan 16, he said that the union government several years ago had sent orders for colour coding in rickshaws. The order is not being implemented in all the places. Meter should also be used.
“Prime Minister Modi had said that he will make the entire country digital. Let him make the colour coding system mandatory. Colour coding helps to identify rickshaws easily in the event of accidents.
“Nearly 3,500 rickshaws are running in the district outskirts. Only 50 autos out of them are following colour coding. Therefore, RTO officials should take note of it and prevent exploitation of passengers,” said G A Kotekar.
Veena Deepak and Rajesh B Shetty, presidents, auto rickshaw drivers and owner’s association, Vittal Jathan, chief secretary, Stanly Bangera and others were present.
