Belagavi: Five from family meet watery grave in accident

Belagavi, Jan 16: Five members of a single family drowned in an accident in which a car dived into Ghataprabha canal after its driver lost control over the vehicle. The accident occurred near Kadabi - Shivapur in Sandatti taluk late night on Monday.

Fakkiravva (29), Hanumanth (60), Lagamanna (38), Paravva (50) and Laxmi (40) died in the accident. They were from Poojeri in Gokak. The family was returning to its village after taking part in the funeral of a relative when the car plunged into Ghataprbaha left bank canal.

Car driver, Adiveppa Malagi, succeeded in saving himself by swimming to safety. Four of the bodies have been recovered so far.
