Kundapur: St Juze Vaz feast celebrated with pomp, gaiety

Kundapur, Jan 14: The feast of St Joseph Vaz was celebrated with gaiety at Kundapur Holy Rosary Church.

Parish priest of Parampalli church, Fr Anil D’Souza offered the festive mass. In his homily, he said that we should be lovable to God by inculcating the ideals of St Joseph Vaz.

“St Joseph Vaz is the man of God who sacrificed his life for the service of God. St Joseph Vaz had immense faith in Mother Mary. He had maintained a close relationship with God through prayer,” he said.

“He had served selflessly in Kundapur, Gangolli and Basrur as Kundapur church parish priest in 1681. Living in the environment where he served is the blessing to us by God. We should develop good virtues in lives. We should be deserving to the love and blessings of God by our sacrifices, love and selfless service,” he said.



Kundapur church parish priest Stany Tauro, Kota church parish priest Alphonse D’Lima, Piusnagar church parish priest Alfred Barboza, principal Fr Pravin Amrith Martis and deacon Pravin concelebrated in the mass.

Those who contributed cash for the festive celebrations were presented candles and thanked.

    We had no idea until this date that Saint Juze Vas had served in Kundapur, Gangoli and Basrur during the 17th century. We were only aware of the fact that Saint Juze Vaz was murdered in Mudipu just adjacent to the Infosis Complex.

    We are great believers in Saint Juze Vas who had given us a special favor last year when I suffered a severe leg fracture. Since then we have visited Mudipu more than three times, and we shall always visit Mudipu whenever we visit Mangalore.

    Saint Juze Vas is a treasure of Mudipu, and now that we learnt about Kundapur, Gangoli and Basrur where he served for a while, we shall certainly try and visit these places during our next visit to India.

    May Saint Juze Vas continue to bless us and help us in all our future needs.
